My professor in Marxism once posted a mind-boggling proposition to us. He posited that why don't we adopt communism or Marxism?
For the past decades, the Philippines have embraced an ideology so much different from the situation of the society. We have been embracing a very divisive and exploitative system- Capitalism.
In principle, he further discussed, the rich are favored in the capitalistic society. The poor become the weakest class. Simple logic will tell us that communism as an opposite ideology will favor the poor, who comprise the majority of the Philippine populace.
Who is Karl Marx? Young people today no longer see his ideas a threat to the "status quo." In the early 70s and 80s, he was depicted as the "Lucifer incarnate." He was the evil mind behind the work of the devil – communism. He is the greatest threat to humanity, even worse than cancer and Aids.
Today, two centuries after his birth, we look at the person not as how our "big brother" had painted his picture in our minds. Let us try to see him as a person who wanted to effect change and to advance the lives of the poor workers.
So, when shall we again a man to walk on this earth who has a passion for real change? I pray for another Marx in our midst.
