TRAFFIC in Bacolod City right now is just plain horrendous, especially in major thoroughfares where there are ongoing construction works of drainage projects.
To address the traffic situation in the city (hopefully), the Traffic Management Unit (TMU) of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) will tap the help of Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
This is also because the traffic is seen to get worse as the classes will open on June 4.
Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, head of TMU, said personnel of MMDA will be coming to the city during the start of classes to check the actual traffic situation, especially during rush hour.
They want to personally check the scenario for them to suggest proper measures to address the traffic problem, he said.
What is ironic here is that MMDA couldn't even control, let alone improve the traffic of imperial Manila, but hey, the city needs all the help it can get.
We're ecstatic, and curious, on what kind of help MMDA can bring into the table.
One suggestion to ease the traffic is to impose stricter rules when it comes to illegal parking along major streets, especially in Lacson and Araneta Streets.
Maybe local authorities could crack down erring drivers who park their cars at the side of the road, without any regard to the pedestrian and traffic.
Yes, the traffic in the city is just horrendous. But it should also start with self-consciousness. What can you do to improve the situation?
It's not only the responsibility of the city government, but also the citizens.
