THE Pahanocoy Anti-Reclamation Movement (PARM) expressed their strong opposition to the coastal reclamation in Bacolod City.
In a press conference held Monday, October 9, the residents of Barangay Pahanocoy announced their vehement opposition to the ongoing coastal reclamation project in their community, as they called for the immediate halt of the project.
The project, which seeks to appropriate more than 700 hectares of Pahanocoy's coastline, has raised significant concerns among the local populace, Jimmy Fuentespina, PARM chairman, said.
Over a dozen neighborhoods have already felt the repercussions of this encroachment, including the destruction of vital mangrove ecosystems, changes to local waterways, and the depletion of natural resources, he added.
The reasons for their opposition include severe flooding, livelihood and food security, environmental and resource degradation, and legal violations. (PR)
