COMING in as the lowest seed, Gildo Ang scored upset victories to secure the April title in the Tenpin Masters Challenge (TMC) Season Four Shoot-Out Finale at Lopue's East Bowling Center in Bacolod City.
Ang continued his momentum to beat eventual first runner-up Dwight Somcio, 180-168, in their championship match.
The new champion, who was seeded fourth, capitalized on the split shots of top seed OJ Lopue in the crossover semi-final to start turning the lanes in his favor, 217-188.
For the second runner-up game, third seed Herman Santos made sure his 205 pin output will be enough against Lopue who got 176. Santos succumbed to second seed Somcio's high-game, 205-234.
Jasper Quimanhan settled for the fourth runner-up honor after he finished fifth in the five-game eliminations.
Completing the top 15 Masters are Romie Li, Richel Gumban, Raymund Livioco, Jack Palermo, Paco Collantes, Willy Nieva, Hector Jamiana, Ariel Yelo, Sunnyboy Tankit, and Leoner Ynzon.
Ang joined the elite of tenpinners this season which include Larnie Vencer, Somcio, Quimanhan, Jun Pamatian, Collantes, and Yelo.
Pamatian won his version of an upset game against number one qualifier Pablo Namacpacan for the Hilit-Hilit title this month after defeating Rey Pesares and Luche Magtunao for the right to challenge the top seed.
The second qualifying playdate for May resumes today at 8 p.m. Oiling pattern that will be used is Montreal 41, which is the oiling pattern for the upcoming 20th Negros Tenpin Open Bowling Tournament 2018 in Bacolod City on May 30 to June 3.
This season's TMC is organized by the officers of STAI and played every Tuesdays and Thursdays.
