THE Games and Amusements Board (Gab) will be conducting their own test on NLEX guard Kiefer Ravena after being tested positive of three substances banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada), namely: Higenamine 1, 3-Dimethylbutylamine, and 4-Methylhexan-2-amine.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has confirmed on Monday, May 29, they have received a communication from Fiba informing them that Ravena had failed the drug test conducted on February 25 following Gilas Pilipinas's game against Japan at the Mall of Asia Arena.
With that development, Fiba has also suspended the 24-year-old rookie guard in all its tournaments for 18 months.
But for Gab Chairman Abraham Mitra, the Board will still look into it as for them the reports have yet to be confirmed and that the test was not done under their auspices.
"It will be unfair to the athlete and his team to speculate. We have to investigate on our own," Mitra said.
"A lot is at stake and we must not rush to a conclusion without finding out the truth. Ravena could face a suspension from international play or revocation of the license issued to him by the Gab," he added.
Mitra assures the sporting community that GAB will file the appropriate cases or sanctions if and when violations are proven.
Gab is the government agency in regulating and supervising professional sports and allied activities.
