BAD news for Ceres Negros FC fans.
Spanish striker Bienvenido Marañon will not be seeing action when Ceres defends its Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup Zonal Finals crown against Home United FC of Singapore on August 1 at Panaad Park and Stadium and on August 8 at Jalan Besar Stadium.
AFC has suspended the 32-year-old forward in two matches for violating Article 47.1.6 of the AFC Disciplinary Code or using offensive, insulting or abusive language and or gestures; as well as Article 48.1.3 or the sanction for serious infringements punishable by an expulsion at least one match for using offensive, insulting, or abusive language and or gestures, and Article 50.1 or bringing the game into disrepute.
Marañon was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 in accordance with Article 48.2 of the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Code which shall be settled within 30 days from the date that this decision was communicated.
AFC also informed the ace Ceres FC striker that a repeat violation of these provisions will be met with more severe punishment.
Marañon explained about getting carded that he was a bit frustrated with his Burmese defender tailing him all throughout the game. And that he called his defender to join him in celebration after scoring a goal.
Ceres, despite playing three games in a week's time and the 35 degrees heat in Yangon, the Busmen conquered the challenges and brought pride and honor for Negros Occidental and the Philippines by edging Yangon United FC, 6-5, on aggregate at the Thuwanna Youth Training Centre Stadium.
