BOXING icon and Senator Manny Pacquaio was grateful for the kind gesture of his fellow senators in congratulating him for defeating Lucas Matthysse to claim the title in their recent boxing match held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Pacquaio, being the adopted son of Bacolod City, also considered Mayor Evelio Leonardia as his lucky charm and his flag bearer.
He returned to his work when the Senate resumed its session Tuesday, July 24.
He said the resolutions were authored by Senate President Vicente Sotto, III, Juan Miguel Zubiri and Juan Edgardo Angara.
Pacquaio's astonishing international recognition debut came after his successive wins in his years of professional international boxing that earned him world championship belts in eight weight categories against boxing greats Juan Manuel Marquez, Miguel Cotto, Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley and Ricky Hatton.
The recent feat of the boxing great over Matthysse has once again delivered pride, joy, and glory to the hearts of the millions of Filipino people cheering in the midst of the economic and political turmoil they are currently facing.
Pacquaio in response thanked his fellow senators for their moral support to him during his fight against Matthysse.
"Thank you for the honor and commendation you have given me my fellow Senators. I also thank the Filipino people for their continued love and support to me. My victory is not just for me and my family. It is for our country and for God's greater glory. Let me take this opportunity to clarify that my heart is okay, healthy, stronger and younger than ever. My heart will continue to beat with love and compassion for our country and people. I will continue to honor God and our country with excellence and integrity inside and outside the ring.
