ONLY eight students from Pinget Elementary School are presumptively positive of urinalysis tract infection (UTI).
Baguio City Health Officer Rowena Galpo said tests confirm 9.87 percent of the 547 students from the Pinget Elementary School were referred to the Baguio General Hospital for further diagnostic examinations.
"Still presumptive test, yung walo nayun ay kailangang mapa-follow kung meron bang nararamdamang sign and symptoms, may history ba sila ng fever or my history ba sila ng sore throat or skin infections that may lead to kidney disease or they may go follow up laboratory exam like culture but depends to the doctor kung ano ang kanilang gawing action dahil narefer na ang mga bata sa Baguio general hospital," said Galpo.
She explained out of 547 students, there were 460 students who have been tested through the dipstick screening test and validation administered July 20.
Among the 460 students, 85 tested positive were asked to undergo urinalysis testing, however, among the 85 students, only 81 students underwent the urinalysis testing. Twenty students further underwent urinalysis diagnostic examination where the eight were recorded infected.
Since last week, Galpo has been debunking reports saying 96 percent of the 700 pupils tested positive for UTI.
Pinget Elementray School Principal Helen Acop said they have done intervention to combat UTI incidence.
"I always remind students to eat only healthy foods and drink eight glasses of water a day. We also have a nine and three o'clock habit where we remind teachers to let their students drink water," said Acop.
Acop added a routine check-up at the school canteen and the stores surrounding the school in promoting and developing healthy eating habits among the students by cooperating to sell only healthy and nutritious food. (With a report from Giovanni Galendez/MMSU intern)
