BAGUIO City Councilor and Liga ng mga Barangay president Michael Lawana said assessment of quarantine sites within each barangay is ongoing.
Lawana said barangay leaders are facing requirement challenges to convert government-owned buildings into Covid-19 isolation facilities as each site has its own bathroom and ample space for isolation.
"Ongoing ang assessment namin with our city health officer and Benjie Macadangdang. We are evaluating each area but so far, wala pa mag qualify," Lawana said.
The councilor said barangay hall or even multipurpose facilities in each area does not meet standards set by the Department of Health (DOH) and may need funding for its conversion to conform to standards.
Lawana said the team is now in the process of evaluating each barangay site and may have a full report by next week.
Previously, Mayor Benjamin Magalong ordered immediate identification of areas in the city's barangays where persons with mild Covid-19 symptoms and those who are asymptomatic may be quarantined.
The order came in the heels of an Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) resolution directing local government units to refer asymptomatic persons and those with mild symptoms of disease to be contained in isolation facilities instead of their own homes.
Lawana said the idea of tapping private properties either to loan or lease in the each barangay has not been explored as of yet, as the city is exhausting efforts to assess government owned facilities first.
Lawana hopes the proposal to use the remaining P8 million from the city's P78 million "Bayanihan" grant for conversion of identified facilities will be approved.
