WAYS to help businesses affected by the Covid-19 pandemic will be considered.
Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the matter will be studied by the local finance committee.
"Pag uusapan namin yan ng aming local finance committee kung paano namin sila tulungan. We still need to talk to local finance committee para malaman ang mga incentive na pwede ibigay sa kanila," Magalong said.
Last week, businessmen called for possible subsidies from the government for the cash advances made by their employees.
The hotel and restaurant business has been hit hardest by the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine as operations came to a halt with bookings and events forced to cancel in a bid to restrict travel and minimize transmission of Covid-19.
The industry also stepped out to the call of Magalong to help as Lindi Hotel along Legarda Road has pledged to convert the area into a Covid-19 facility.
Lindi Hotel is now a containment center for Covid-19 persons under investigation (PUIs) with mild symptoms in the city. The hotel has 34 rooms and complete lodging facilities.
Over the weekend, installation of the required medical equipment, housekeeping system and other provisions needed to make it operational this week.
Meanwhile, Starwood Hotel has likewise offered its facilities for the city's use to house medical frontliners temporarily to help them rest after active duty.
The hotel along Kisad Road allowed to use free of charge, its unoccupied rooms o be used by the medical staff of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center after the owner learned of the difficulties being encountered by some of the frontliners in going home due to the suspension of operation of the public utility vehicles thus he made the offer.
Doctor Rowena Galpo, city health officer, said this is a big help as it is the BGHMC staff members who will be attending to the bulk of patients as being anticipated.
Hotel Supreme has also pitched in as a drop off center for materials needed for personal protective gear of medical front liners along with the Baguio Association of Retired Persons and the University of the Cordilleras.
