BAGUIO City Councilor Benny Bomogao, head of the committee on Public Utilities, Transportation and Traffic Legislation, is bent on having a Baguio boy sit as Register of Deeds (ROD).
Bomogao filed a resolution requesting Land Registration Authority Administrator Renato Bermejo to appoint a permanent ROD from the region, citing the specification as to be in the best interest of the city.
The city official said the absence of a permanent head in the most visited office like the ROD, will lead to serious problems to the public with transactions and documents left unacted.
Bomogao said clients have been complaining of long months of delay in the processing of their documents which, under normal circumstances, would only take days.
"The slow pace of delivery of public services by the office of the ROD due to absence of a permanent head has impacted negatively on the overall performance of the city government," said Bomogao.
Months ago, the local council asked the National Bureau of Investigation to probe alleged irregularities at ROD.
ROD officer-in-charge Rodil Rivera was embroiled in controversy for alleged corruption by a slew of complainants.
The council also sought the transfer of Rivera pending the investigation of the case.
Bomogao said the council does not want a repeat of what happened and wants a local to head the office.
The move is thought to be conducive for smoother operations as a local ROD would have a feel of the local scene as well as be present to give time and effort to the position.
