AROUND 10,000 test kits and other supplies were turned over to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center on Saturday, June 6, 2020.
Kevin See, chief of staff of Congressman Eric Go Yap, said the supplies were personally requested by the Benguet caretaker and ACT-CIS party-list representative from Secretary Vince Dizon of the Inter-Agency Task Force for Covid-19.
However, since Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) in La Trinidad doesn't have its molecular laboratory yet, it was turned over to BGHMC on Wednesday and was received by BGHMC chief Doctor Ricardo Runez, BeGH chief Dr. Meliarazon Dulay and Baguio Congressman Mark Go.
"Ang gusto talaga ni Congressman Yap, hindi na tayo didipensa lang against Covid, gusto talaga niya opensa, hanapin natin iyong mga cases ng Covid-19 sa mga barangay, munisipyo, hindi na puwedeng mag aantay tayo ng may sintomas pupunta sa hospital, magpapa-test, saka lang natin malalaman," See added.
Runez, meanwhile, said the national government aims to expand the mass testing.
"We can at least achieve iyong goal natin na mas maraming mass testing. The more that we can test, the more we can see and isolate positive (Covid-19 patients) to prevent the spread of infection," he added.
The medical chief said testing for Covid-19 in the hospital depends on the submission from various provinces in the region.
The sub-national laboratory is handling other regions in Northern Luzon. including other provinces of the Cordillera Administrative Region that conducts 200 to 300 tests a day.
Runez said the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) machine and automated RNA extractor previously loaned by the solon is a great help to Covid-19 testing.
On the same day, personnel of Yap distributed a cash gift of P5,000 each for 110 Department of Education personnel in Benguet.
See added the personnel wasn't able to receive their Performance-Based Bonus for the last two years that prompted the legislator to distribute cash gift from his personal funds.
