TWO BENGUET police officers were caught by the Police Regional Office – Cordillera (PRO-COR) Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) in an entrapment operation on June 5.
The arrest was part of PRO-COR's internal cleansing measures to weed out erring police personnel involved in illegal activities in the region.
"This should serve as a warning to all our policemen of Cordilleras that we mean business here, they should not undergo illegal activities, somebody is watching over them," said PRO - COR regional director Chief Superintendent Rolando Nana during the Saturday inspection of the Baguio City Police Office.
Nana reiterated if this erring policemen will continue to do anomalous activities, they will be sacrificing their careers and the future of their families.
The two policemen were identified as Senior Police Officer SPO 3 Paulino Lubos Jr. of Tublay Municipal Police Station and SPO 4 Gilbert Legaspi, who is assigned with the Provincial Intelligence Branch of Benguet Provincial Police Office.
Small town lottery operators and collectors complained against them for extortion.
"The investigation on the two personnel is now at Camp Crame particularly the criminal case while the administrative case will be handled by the Internal Affairs Service of the PNP," added Nana.
Nana added the immediate supervisors of the two policemen were relieved effective June 8.
The region's top cop reiterated PRO-COR's continuous efforts to rid the organization of erring policemen and will enforce discipline within the regional organization.
Meanwhile, Benguet Provincial Police Director Senior Superintendent Lyndon Mencio vowed to clean Benguet PPO of such personnel who may continue to put the organization in bad light.
"We have been taught in the organization to instill discipline among our ranks and this two police personnel have no place in our organization. There apprehension is a manifestation of the organization's measure in intensifying its internal cleansing so that such kinds of individuals will cease its illegal activities which have given a negative impression to the public which we serve and protect," Mencio added.
