SOME 53 tents were put up to accommodate Itogon evacuees from the seven barangays who will undergo pre-emptive evacuation in preparation for Typhoon Paeng.
Since Tuesday, September 25, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Office regional director Janet Armas said emergency shelters were set up as part of pre-emptive evacuation of families in Itogon at Wangal Sports Complex, in La Trinidad.
Armas said they have requested additional tents and other spaces for the 5,000 to 7,000 families from the seven barangays in Itogon that will undergo evacuation, except for Dalupirip and Tinongdan which will utilize their own evacuation centers in their barangays.
"It will be the mayor who will inform us when they will transfer. On our part we will be ready," Armas said.
For the upcoming typhoon, Armas said they are checking evacuation centers and prepositioning goods while augmenting staff, not only DSWD but also volunteers.
At least 30,000 family food packs are prepositioned for the 5,000 to 7,000 families.
The agency is looking into other relocation sites which national government owned facility to accommodate the tents while the DSWD training center have been opened to families waiting for the remains of their victims.
Armas said an ongoing counseling from a team of the Department of Health is ongoing for the victims of landslide in Itogon, including those who give aid during the disaster.
As of 8:30 a.m. of September 26, casualties recorded in the Cordillera region reached to 107 with 90 reported dead in Benguet, 85 in Itogon and one each in Tuba and Kabayan, 13 in Baguio City, six in Mt. Province and one in Kalinga.
