IN KAPANGAN, Benguet, a tradition of having unopposed candidates thrives.
Attributed to an amiable culture and proven service of its leaders, the phenomenon of unopposed candidates has continued for years in the Benguet.
Benguet Governor Crescencio Pacalso said elders in the town form a consensus to have continuity of programs, projects and activities starting from former mayor and board member lawyer Liso Agpas, former mayor and incumbent provincial board member Roberto Canuto to the incumbent Kapangan mayor Manny Fermin.
For the upcoming May 2019 polls, incumbent officials Fermin, Vice Mayor Eslay Mayo, and Buguias Mayor Ruben Tinda-an are unopposed.
Last week, Fermin said on a positive note this political system has been marked in Kapangan where he "hope that in the incoming generation to continue," to have continuity and to maintain programs for the municipality, this has been practiced for more than a decade.
"We are thankful to our leaders who have taught us of the program, political system and no competition, in the past years we have seen why, it is through their own leadership."
Fermin explained instead of the unsteady leadership, this was abated to have consistency of implementation of projects through the continuing leadership.
If there are any lapses he added their office is open for suggestions.
Being unopposed this year, Fermin will serve on his second term as executive chief of the town.
