IN RESPONSE to the Bayanihan Fund Challenge launched by Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Archie Gamboa, the Police Regional Office–Cordillera (PRO–COR) is hoping to raise P7 million to help thwart the spread of the Covid-19.
Police Brigadier General R'win Pagkalinawan, PRO-COR director, said the police aim to raise at least P200 million from the personal funds of police officers and personnel to augment the government's Social Amelioration Program [SAP].
"The project would not deduct the donation from the salaries of PNP personnel as this contribution is on a voluntary basis. We must emphasize that the Bayanihan Fund Challenge is strictly voluntary with no standard amount of contributions specified," Pagkalinawan explained.
PRO – COR is hoping to get P1,000 each from its 7,000 personnel.
Gamboa earlier stated that this voluntary action is affordable to the members of the police organization.
"Team PNP Bayanihan Fund Challenge aims to raise over P200 million from individual voluntary contributions of PNP personnel in response to President Rodrigo Duterte's candid admission of government's extreme difficulty in providing the basic needs of the poorest of the poor in a prolonged crisis," Gamboa said.
As of April 14, the PNP collected P34 million in cash and pledges.
"We believe that the men and women of PRO–COR have more than enough to spare for the government and our people in their dire need, and that this is not too much for our country that can be asked of us to which we are willing to give," Pagkalinawan added.
Heads of the command group and directorial staff, police regional offices, national support units, and all-star-rank officers had committed 50% of their basic salary for the month of May.
The PNP hierarchy urged other groups within the police organization to participate in the Bayanihan Fund Challenge.
