BAGUIO City Councilor Arthur Allad-iw is asking to install signs on risk prone areas.
Allad-iw said there is a need to institutionalize the putting up of warning signage in all identified landslide, flood and sinking prone areas in the City of Baguio to give spirit to the above pronouncements.
"There is a need to expound and strengthen the pronouncement under the Environment Code of the City of Baguio to ensure its full and effective implementation," he said.
The alderman said the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (MGB-DENR) has identified the areas susceptible to landslide, flood and sinking areas in the barangays and other areas of the city.
The MGB has already completed the map for the landslide-prone areas in the city and an advisory coupled with recommendations were furnished by the Bureau to the concerned barangays.
If the new law is passed, warning signs will be installed and maintained in all identified and would be identified risk-prone areas in all barangays and other areas in the city with the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) and the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (BDRRMC) to coordinate together with the concerned agencies on the installations, and updating and identifying of risk prone areas.
The Allad-iw law aims to strengthen the existing the Environment Code of the city which mandates the developing and institutionalizing of early warning systems.
When the law is passed the CDRRMO will then include in its annual budget the cost needed.
