THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) has prepositioned 1,000 family food packs to families affected by the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
Leo Quintilla, DSWD-CAR officer-in-charge regional director, gave the assurance of support to augment the request of the Municipality of Itogon for additional family food packs following the appeal of Mayor Victorio Palangdan.
"Last week, we have pre-positioned 1,000 family food packs for the Municipality of Itogon and another 500 prepared for Tuba, Benguet which is part of our Oplan 'Tugon' or Oplan Tuba and Itogon, which is a special operations for the sudden increase of Covid-19 cases in both municipalities," Quintilla said.
Aside from the family food packs, DSWD-CAR is preparing other support such as personal protective equipment (PPE) and tents, among others, in response to the needs of Itogon and Tuba, Benguet.
"This will be a continuing support, which is still part of our Covid-19 response as long as there is a need to augment the resources of the local government unit. We need to support in terms of the needs, particularly of those families placed under granular lockdown which is why these 1,000 family food packs are prepositioned and ready for distribution anytime," Quintilla added.
As of Monday, November 2, DSWD-CAR has a stock pile of 14,324 family food packs in the region that include the available tents, sleeping kits and additional preparation for hygiene kits.
DSWD is also keeping an eye on those affected by Typhoon Rolly, particularly in the municipalities of Kabugao, Calanasan and Flora in Apayao and the Municipality of Sablan in Benguet.
"We recorded that the affected families is at 106 or around 405 persons so we are closely monitoring the reports today even if our typhoon signal have been lifted," Quintilla added.
As of November 2, the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) reported three families composed of nine persons in the Municipality of Balbalan in Kalinga and 35 individuals from four Barangays in Bontoc and Barlig in Mountain Province were evacuated.
CDRRMC reported that the total none food items at present stored in identified warehouses in the region is at 1,121 while DSWD has an augmentation fund of P206,400.
The Department of Public Works and Highways in the region has yet to report road closures in national road networks and bridges in the region.
