BAGUIO City Councilor Ed Avila is requesting SM City Baguio to give persons with disability (PWDs) free passes to the cinema at any day of the week.
Avila reasoned that the courtesy extended to the PWDs of the mall in return can be granted tax incentives.
"PWDs have the same rights as everyone else as we encourage them to live normally and independently which must not only be the concern of family or the community but also of government by itself," Avila said.
Avila cited the Magna Carta for PWD which mandates local government units (LGUs) to adopt measures where the PWDS are recognized to take their proper places in society and thus take responsibility in giving full support to their improvement and total wellbeing to encourage them to continue to contribute to community and nation building.
Under the Magna Carta, LGUs are mandated to establish mechanisms to assist them as marginalized sectors of the society and manifest their appreciation and recognition of their status in life including providing entertainment to them like watching current films at SM City in Baguio.
In the city, senior citizens are now accorded free movies every Tuesdays, a law also enacted by the local council.
