BUSINESSMEN involved in the selling of pirated DVD's will soon be charged by the Optical Media Board (OMB) for violating Republic Act (RA) 9239 or the Optical Media Act of 2003.
Following a raid conducted by the OMB of identified business establishment in Baguio which resulted to the confiscation of 150 sacks of pirated DVD's worth P21 million.
OMB Chief Anselmo Adriano said the businessmen who own the pirated DVD's and those involved in selling will be charged.
Republic Act No. 9239 was enacted to regulate optical media which reorganized the Videogram Regulatory Board which provides penalties and other purposes.
An imprisonment of at least three years but not more than six years, and a fine of not less than P500,000 but not exceeding P 1,500,000, at the discretion of the court, will be imposed on any person, natural or juridical, who shall be found guilty of the said offence.
Anselmo added any businessmen wanting to selling optical media products such as DVD's and CD's to acquire a permit from the local government.
The raid was conducted by the OMB and representatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in the region on August 6.
