SEVERAL School of Living Traditions in the province are set to receive more than P2 million for its different programs and activities.
Closed to ten projects funded by the National Center for Culture and the Arts are set in Benguet, according to Provincial tourism operations officer and SLT focal person Heather Dizon.
School of Living Traditions, which started in 1995, are community-managed centers of learning where cultural masters transfer their knowledge and skills on particular art, craft, and tradition to the young members of the community for their appreciation and learning.
In the province, different art forms were also taught in the previous year since the program started in 2017. This include Patda embroidery, Ibaloy and Kankana-ey Performing Arts.
The programs this 2020 are Basic Training for IP Local researchers in Buguias on the documentation of traditional culture of the town from May-July, profiling and documentation of the oral traditions of Pasdong in Atok, Benguet from April to December.
Also slated this year are several profiling and documentation of oral traditions in Itogon and Tuba.
From April to May is the preservation of the cultural heritage, customs and practices in Sablan, Benguet, documentation of oral traditions of Tuba, Benguet May to June 2020 and research and documentation of cultures and traditions of Gusaran, Kabayan, Benguet in June.
Next month, a cultural festivity is slated to keep alive the dwindling conduct of rituals, cultural dances, and chants of Kayapa, Bakun and a Benguet Music Festival slated November which seeks to heighten awareness of the public on the music of Benguet with all municipalities represented by one performer, and a group of chanters also to participate in the festival.
