THREE visitors from Quezon City will face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, following their arrest for possession of close to P1.2 million worth of marijuana in Kalinga province.
The Tinglayan Municipal Police Station reported that they conducted a checkpoint after receiving information that the suspects were transporting marijuana.
The suspects were identified as Nelson Portugal II, 26; Eric Frantinog, 22; and Jai Gentiro, 22. All are residents of Project 6, Quezon City.
Police flagged them down at the checkpoint and ordered them to open the trunk of their vehicle.
Authorities said they found marijuana stalks packed in transparent packing tape and weighing 10,120 grams.
The suspects are detained by the Tinglayan Police pending the filing of charges.
Earlier last week, four young professionals were arrested in an interdiction operation by anti-narcotics agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Mountain Province Office and local police in Bontoc, Mt. Province.
Confiscated from the group were 24 bricks of dried marijuana leaves and four tubular form dried marijuana leaves having a total estimated weight of 26 kilograms with dangerous drug board value of P850,000.
