TRAFFIC lights will soon be utilized at the Kilometer 5 intersection of the Benguet capital town.
La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda said the traffic lights will be up and ready by the end of the month following the training of the police personnel who will man its operation.
Salda said installation of traffic lights, with a P4.2 million budget allocated by the Local Government, is aimed to decongest traffic and address the congestion woes in the municipality.
A first in the Valley, the traffic lights at Kilometer 5 serves as benchmark on whether to install another set at foot of the Capitol and the Pines Park area.
Prior to the utilization of the traffic lights, Police Chief Inspector Benson Macli-ing said the move is made in a bid to have a progressive municipality, considering that La Trinidad is hoped to become a component city.
Municipal Planning Development Office recorded a 50.26 percent increase of vehicles in the Valley from 2012 to 2016 while private vehicles recorded a rise with 28,371 followed by 1,534 public vehicles, and 539 government vehicles.
The volume of road traffic is concentrated from Baguio City going towards Shilan with peak hours from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., where it is concentrated, while during noon time and in the late afternoon, congestion begins from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
