YOUTH empowerment programs will be among the agendas of the newly-elected La Trinidad Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation president Apolinario Bagano Jr.
Bagano said for the youth to make informed decisions, the first step to take part in nation building is planning for their own lives and not only spend on night outs.
"One of the main problems we have discussed was the lack of participation, the passivity, they don't know how to decide for themselves. They still need guidance and we give them opportunity to make wiser decisions," he added.
The SK president said they have set timeline for their programs and approached representatives from sports, education, faith-based group, student body organizations and facilitators.
In his first week in office, Bagano said it is a day to day learning as he is now preparing to institutionalize La Trinidad performing arts guild.
"One way of having an organization fund raising for the youth and the proceeds additionally would be the historical commission so that the youth will understand the roots of La Trinidad," he added.
Following text messages from youth attempting suicide Bagano said they would want to make an ordinance creating a hotline to address these issues.
In addition, opportunities will be given to the youth in different aspects such as sports, livelihood opportunities, and Children in Conflict with the Law.
"We would want to have a league and scouting, we want it long term. We want them to have a venue for them to be trained and at the end of that training camp be a competition, but the main focus will be the camp for them to improve their skills which they can use in the future," Bagano said.
The SK president added they are set to dialogue with Technical Skills and Development Authority to provide livelihood opportunities and the coordination of the Department of Social Welfare and Development for the those Children in Conflict with the Law.
Bagano is set to head committee on sports and youth development and still awaiting for the official transfer of the committee to the SK Federation.
