WITH the midterm national elections for senators, congressmen and partylist representatives fast coming nearer, the election campaign is heating up. This happening is manifested in the case of BARP by the recent non-failing appearance of political personalities eager to say their piece in community meetings or any other kind of human gathering.
It was and is inspiring to see the interest of candidates to come to BARP and give educative information about their views on governmental issues.
However, lest there arise qualms of conscience in conscientious BARP members whose organization clearly states that it is non-political, we would like to clarify that it is true that the Constitution and By-Laws of the organization, as emphasized in its Code of Ethics, categorically state that BARP is non-political. It does not mean that we the members should refrain from the elucidation of political matters. We cannot afford to remain ignorant of what is happening in government.
The duty to know such vital matters presses itself upon all of us, much more so in the duty to know what is in the mind of those who are expressing, even pressing, their intent to participate in handling governmental powers, particularly the men and women who have filed their candidacy for this coming national elections.
It is but right and just that we hear them from their own mouth and even hold open forum with them if need be. It should be borne in mind that government shapes the manner of our living together in that inescapable political web of cities and towns. Politics, by the way, is the science and art of living together.
As science, it demands intellectual acumen from those who are going to lead it; if art, then the sense of beauty and all that it entails is equally much expected from those who are presenting themselves for our choice to be our succeeding public servants in this country that is struggling to become an honorable Maharlika not just by name.
In short, we should be enlightened voters in order that we will not blame others for the results later if the winners are not to our satisfaction in ability and quality of work. The mandate stating that the BARP organization is non-political should be taken in a positive way. It was wisely encapsulated in the provisions by the founding conceptor-leaders to assure unity and cohesiveness among the members but selecting good leaders is a must in any organization.
Fair play should be practiced all the time such exercise is called to be done. A basic way to achieve that is to stop, look and listen, as the nursery rhyme goes, without going bias for one individual or group and bigoted to others. "Come one, come all; let's hear you and do let us choose the purposive best among you for this term" is the more educated, spotless attitudinal banner being unfurled atop the Cordi Mountains and dales by undaunted BARPers under the leadership of never-say-die Mr. BARP Federico Balanag.
Good knowledge, good choice, they march in cadence! But what is good? Oh, but that is good for another shot focus. For the moment, space is signing us to bid good-bye!
