THE City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro) is urging candidates to push for a garbage-free campaign in line with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
Clenro head Armen Cuenca said they are calling on Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan bets to lessen waste from their campaign materials during the campaign period, which will last until May 12, as well as on and after election day.
Cuenca also reminded the candidates to refrain themselves from indiscriminately putting up campaign materials anywhere.
"After the elections, we will be inviting them to remove their posters and clean up," Cuenca said.
However, Cuenca said they expect less trash during the Barangay and SK elections compared to national elections, pointing out that the volume of garbage collected around the city remains within manageable level.
Cuenca said Clenro is deploying sweepers on election day to maintain cleanliness in voting centers.
Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Cagayan de Oro City has also begun removing illegally posted campaign materials in city streets.
Posting campaign materials on trees, light posts, electrical wires, schools, waiting sheds, sidewalks, bridges, health centers, public structures, airports, seaports, subdivisions, vehicles, among others, are strictly prohibited by the poll body.
Under Comelec rules, the posters should measure 2 feet by 3 feet, while leaflets should measure 8.5 x 14 inches, and streamers should be 3 feet by 8 feet.
The campaign period began on May 4, Friday, and will run until May 12, two days before the elections on May 14.
