TO uplift the living conditions of street families in the city, the City Government of Cagayan de Oro and Lourdes College will collaborate in the adoption of eight street-dweller families for a focused case management project.
This, after the 18th City Council authorized City Mayor Oscar Moreno to enter into and sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the purpose.
Lourdes College, through its Social Work Program Community Extension Service, aims to adopt at least eight street families in order to improve their social functioning and enable them to become productive members of society.
During the recent meeting of the committee on social services chaired by Councilor Reuben R. Daba, a representative of Lourdes College said the proposal is a social work course which the school considers as an imperative part of social responsibility to always give back to what is due to the community.
Under the MOA, Lourdes College shall provide needed resources such as venue, food, resource persons, and other material assistance needed in the conduct of identified intervention activities, coordinate with City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) office in-charge in the conduct of interviews, home visits, profiling, assessment, and intervention or other support services as part of the case management of the targeted street families, among others.
For its part, the city shall provide a focal person who will assist students in the conduct of collaborative interventions, provide transportation and other support to students and the beneficiaries for the success of the activities.
The city shall, likewise, provide input to students assigned to help in the case management of the targeted families, provide financial assistance if needed in the conduct of intervention activities; provide conducive venue for the conduct of intervention activities; and coordinate with other agencies for resource sharing that may further support the activities.
