ON THE first day of the budget deliberations for 2019, the City Council wants the executive department to come up with a different, stronger strategy to complete the collectibles.
"So far, dili kaayo layo ang collection and proposed amount, murag makuha ra siya," said Councilor Edna Dahino, chairperson of the finance and appropriations committee.
"We learned nga naay uban wala pa nakolekta example sa RPT (real property tax), so we told them that the city council will help them sa pag kolekta kay magamit na baya sa basic services, so we are also helping them to be decisive in collecting kadtong mga old collectibles. Pag mamayad ni sila, walay problema," she added.
Mayor Oscar Moreno has earlier proposed a total of P6.5 billion for the 2019 budget which includes the general fund and the special account/operation of the city's economic enterprises amounting to some P5.880 billion and some P619.459 million, respectively.
As of October, the total income is about P4 billion. Councilor Dahino said this could still increase before the year ends depending on the collection.
"That is why I really asked them what are their strategies, strategies that should be different from what they did in the past 3 quarters kay dili pwede nga kung mao lang ilang style, expected gyud na mao rapud ang resulta. A different style para mo increase ang collection, and not to increase the rates para sa mga tao kay it's unfair, those who did not pay their obligation should pay their obligation," she said.
Dahino said she would "definitely not push to increase taxes but instead will push for stricter collection".
The next hearing is set for Wednesday, November 28, and will tackle expenditures, which include budget for public order and safety, among others.
