CAGAYAN de Oro City Councilor Lordan Suan is pushing for a dialogue between city councilors and youth leaders in the city to engage them in the activities at the legislative department.
In his special report, Suan shared a recent event in a university here where he was invited to talk about the importance of legislation and its impact in the community. Along the discussion, Suan said he was surprised with the interest of the students in the efforts of the City Council in certain issues, such as the peace and order situation of Cagayan de Oro.
"Although the student leaders were satisfied with my answer, they still have lots of questions and signified their intent to have a dialogue with the city councilors to air their concerns directly," he said.
"This is very good for us because the youth has lots of ideas we can use and implement. They can be meaningful partners in community building," he added.
Councilor Teodulfo Lao agrees with Suan's suggestion, pointing out that city councilors must sit down with youth leaders from time to time.
"Let them ask questions as to what had the council done over the years, so they will also know how the legislative body works," he said.
Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin Uy endorsed the proposal to the Oro Youth Council, and said he was open to coordinate with the youth of Cagayan de Oro.
