AUTHORITIES are still looking into the death of a South Korean national who was believed to have jumped from his room at the fifth floor of the Smart Condominium in Upper Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro City, Friday, January 25.
The victim was identified as Jung Sangyong, 44.
Initial investigation showed that the victim's body was found hanging on the fence at the back of the condominium.
Investigators are still determining the cause of death but initial findings said the victim died due to the injuries on the head and lower extremities.
"More or less 62 feet ang allegedly nilundagan ng biktima. Initially, ang tama sa ulo ang ikinamatay ng biktima," Senior Inspector Breccia Ruth Townend, police station 7 chief, said.
Police have yet to conclude if the victim committed suicide as the body will have to be autopsied to determine the cause of death and to check whether the victim showed signs of struggle.
"Wala tayong nakitang dugo sa kwarto niya kaya sa autopsy malalaman kung may struggle sa katawan o may foul play and we can't conclude yet na its suicide," Townend said.
She said the victim arrived in Cagayan de Oro on Thursday. Accordingly, he has been going back and forth to the city for about nine years, selling Korean cars in the city through online transactions.
Townend said the victim and some of his Korean friends had a drinking spree on Thursday night because of a problem.
"Sabi ng mga Korean friends niya nag inom daw sila kasi may malaking problema ito at umiiyak pa nga daw," Townend said.
"Labas-pasok na ito sa Pilipinas at kaibigan niya ang may-ari ng condominium kaya every time na nandito siya diha siya ga check in," she added.
Investigators will also have the mobile phone of the victim reviewed to check if there were conversations helpful to the investigation.
Townend said they were already coordinating with the Korean embassy regarding the incident.
