IMMEDIATELY after his win, reelected president of the Liga ng mga Barangay, Alam Lim, showed his allegiance to the current city administration by paying a visit to City Mayor Oscar Moreno in the afternoon of the election day last Monday, July 30.
Just last month, in a surprising turn of events, former opposition barangay captain Lim jumped ship and joined Moreno, leaving his former party Padayon Pilipino which he was with for years and where he started and built his political career.
He said he was afraid that he may not be able to help other village chiefs if he will not join the administration once he gets another term.
In an interview moments after his win, Lim immediately thanked Moreno for "accepting him wholeheartedly."
As for his plans, Lim said he will stick with Mayor Moreno's plan for the 80 barangays of Cagayan de Oro.
"Mga kagawad sa syudad, especially sa pamilya ni Congressman Klarex Uy, karon pa gyud ko katilaw na bisan gitamas-tamasan at least nagsalig sila sa ako, daghang salamat gyud, sa nagsalig sa ako, sa mga supporters, mga ex-kapitan, salamat kaayo (To the city councilors, especially Congressman Klarex Uy's family, to my supporters, former barangay captains, thank you so much for the trust)," Lim said.
Lim beat barangay 33 village chair Conrad Lim by 12 votes.
"It's a very close fight, layo raman ta sa iya, pero nagpasalamat ko nga mga kapitan nga kaabag, wala gyud natintal sa kwarta nga gibubo sa atong kaatbang (we are thankful for the barangay captains who were not tempted by the money poured by our opponent)," he said.
"He did not concede nor congratulate us but let's move on with the politics, what we should focus is our next steps that is to unite barangay officials for development, no more hate, just work for the good of everybody," he said.
Lim said although they have the same surnames with his opponent, he pointed out that they were not related. However he apologized for the "Lim Association" that two Lim's have become opponents.
"Dili mi related, pero naulaw ko, mangayo ko ug pasaylo sa Lim association, nga nagkontra kami, unsaon taman democracy man ni, una mangayo ta ug pasaylo kay ngil-ad nga dili unta angay magkontra, pero gusto man siya modagan, pero limtan na nato na (We're not related but I am embarrassed, I apologize to the Lim association that I went against another Lim, when it shouldn't have been because we have the same surnames, but this is democracy so we can't do anything about it. Now let's forget what happened and start to move on)," he said.
