MISAMIS Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano has ordered municipal health offices in the province to mobilize their respective barangay health emergency response team to monitor residents and visitors arriving from foreign countries, especially those coming from places affected by novel coronovirus (2019-nCoV).

In an executive order issued by Emano early last week, Emano directed the response teams to immediately report their arrival to the nearest health authority.

Emano said the town mayors shall request the village chiefs to head the team in their area of responsibility and the barangay health workers to observe and monitor said foreigners and visitors.

"As the DOH confirmed the cases of novel coronavirus in the Philippines, it is imperative for the province to implement strict monitoring and observe precautionary measures to prevent its outbreak in Misamis Oriental," Emano said.

He said all foreigners, residents and visitors coming from other countries, especially those infected with the 2019-nCoV must undergo a seven to 14 days self-isolation/self-quarantine from arrival in Misamis Oriental.

"In the first sign of any of the symptoms of the 2019-nCoV infection, he/she shall go to the nearest health authority for assessment and screening," the order stated.

Emano also asked the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines to designate an area to screen all arriving passengers for possible infection. This, he added, shall be performed by the Bureau of Quarantine of the Department of Health.

He also ordered the Provincial Health Office to immediately submit a contingency plan in case of 2019-nCoV outbreak in Misamis Oriental.
