THIS year's Fluvial Procession, one of the most-anticipated events of the Catholic faithful every fiesta has been successfully held.
Among the icons who navigated the river were Saint Augustine, Saint Monica, and the Birhen sa Cotta, the patron saints of Cagayan de Oro.
Fr. Willie Tuquib, parochial vicar of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro said the procession also remembers and promote the importance of the river to the city- as a means of life for the residents living along the riverbanks.
Tuquib reminds Kagay-anons that the fiesta should also be a time to appreciate the life of St. Augustine who, despite the wrong turns of his life, was able to find God.
"Dako kaayo nga kalambigitan sa atong kinabuhi, sa wala pa syay pagtuo, grabe gyud kadaot sa iyang kinabuhi, gisudlan ang imoralidad tungod kay nangita siya ug meaning hangtud iyang nakita inubanan sa pag ampo sa iyang inahan si Sta. Monica (He connects to our lives, because before when he has no faith yet, he committed immorality just to find the meaning of his life. With the help of his mother, Sta. Monica, he found God)," Tuquib said.
"Nagpakita nga bisan unsa pa kadaot atong kinabuhi, aduna gyuy paglaom (This only showed that even though how dark or bad our lives may be, there is hope)," he added.
The procession started at the Macajalar Bay and ended at the river's basin along Duaw Park at St. Augustine Cathedral Church last August 28, 2018.
It was participated by different fluvial floats from different barangays in the city, including police and Coast Guard to ensure security.
