INMATES at the Lumbia City Jail in Cagayan de Oro City are set to get P200,000 worth of livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)-Northern Mindanao, an official said.
According to Hapsay Buhay program coordinator Patrick Gabutina, Dole will release the said amount of assistance in a form of equipment and materials for their sewing livelihood.
"A program sa Dole nga mag-release sila og P200,000, it's an assistance for the inmates. And the condition they're asking is somebody should buy the products," he said.
Gabutina said they already found a potential buyer although they are still on the stage of planning out how to implement the livelihood project.
According to the program coordinator, the inmates in the jail will serve as the workers of the potential buyer whose business involves selling bags.
He also shared how he met a former inmate in the city jail who was able to bring home P30,000 after being set free and now has a barber shop in Cabanglasan, Bukidnon.
"Didto sya naka put up og barber shop sa Cabanglasan with his P30,000 and he's doing good there," Gabutina said.
He added that through the livelihood program, the inmates will be able to bring home money to their families or put up their own businesses as soon as they get out of prison.
