CURFEW violators who were rounded up during the Holy Week were lectured about the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) while under police custody, a city police official said over the weekend.
Police Major Evan Vinas, spokesperson of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), reported that 92 individuals were accosted on Maundy Thursday, April 9, while 69 more were caught violating the curfew on Good Friday, April 10.
As of Saturday, April 11, the running total of curfew violators were 1,913, police said.
"Aside from the lecture about Covid-19, profiling was also done," Vinas said.
Those who were caught violating the curfew were gathered at Barangay 40 covered court, fronting Cocpo headquarters. They were informed about Covid-19 through film showing before they were advised to go home around 6:00 a.m., the following day.
Authorities continue to intensify its enforcement on the executive order which placed the city under community quarantine, including the liquor ban.
"Cocpo leadership reiterates its appeal to the general public to stay at home to curve the spread of the virus," Cocpo said.
