AT LEAST 3,942 kilos of spoiled and hot meat chicken were intercepted and confiscated by the City Veterinary Office during its regular inspection in Cogon Public Market, Cagayan de Oro City Wednesday morning, March 4.
Around 1,342 kilos are unsafe or spoiled, 2,322 kilos are hot meat, and 250 kilos are identified as chicken liver and intestines.
The chicken meat, which came from Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, has an estimated worth of P700,000.
According to the driver of the meat van, they were going to burn the spoiled chicken meat and sell the good meat in Marawi City.
But authorities found out that they do not have a meat inspection certificate from the National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS) for the meat products.
The authorities also noticed that the good chicken meat and the spoiled chicken were both placed in the same storage.
The City Veterinarian Office team also found that the meat van's refrigerator was broken, and they were only using ice to freeze the chicken meat.
All of the confiscated chicken meat were brought to Barangay Balubal for disposal.
