A FIRE broke out in Sitio Panaghiusa, Barangay Carreta, Cebu City, on Saturday evening Jan. 18, 2025, displacing 16 families and causing P3.8 million in property damage.

The blaze, which began 9:11 p.m., destroyed 11 houses and damaged one, the Cebu City Public Information Office reported.

Two of the affected families were sharing houses, one was a renter, and one family experienced slight damage to their home.

The fire escalated to a fourth alarm at 10:41 p.m. and took nearly an hour to extinguish.

The affected families, comprising 48 individuals, sought refuge with relatives and friends in the area.

A resident, Rustico Casas Jr., sustained second-degree burns in the incident.

The Cebu City Government, through the Department of Social Welfare and Services, has extended assistance by conducting intake interviews, assessments and distributing three-day meal packs.

Financial assistance has also been recommended for displaced families.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. (DVG, KAL)
