Cebu seniors step up for active aging

AT LEAST 1,000 senior citizens gathered at the Cebu City Sports Complex on Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, for Cebu City’s first Senior Citizens Fun Walk, held in observance of National Senior Citizens Day.

Organized by the Cebu City Government through the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (Osca), the activity brought together older residents from different barangays for a morning of movement, music and fellowship.

The celebration began with Zumba before the participants took to the oval for the Fun Walk. Some walked briskly, others moved at a gentler pace, but the morning offered everyone a chance to stay active and spend time with friends and fellow senior citizens.

For many of the participants, the event was about more than physical exercise. It was a chance to reconnect, make new friends and enjoy being part of a larger community.

Through activities that promote exercise and social interaction, the City Government seeks to encourage senior citizens to remain active and engaged in their communities.

On the oval, every step became part of a bigger message: growing older does not mean slowing down on life. For Cebu City’s seniors, staying active can also mean staying connected.
