Department of Education Assistant Secretary Francis Cesar Bringas said in a press conference on Saturday, July 13, that the Palaro working committee has enlisted a third-party firm to conduct additional telescopic measurements for the newly rehabilitated rubberized track oval at the Cebu City Sports Center.

NCR leads with a total of 17 finalists across Clusters 1 to 3 in Men's Artistic Gymnastics.

Region 4-A follows closely with 9 finalists, while Regions 1 and 2 each have 5 finalists. Regions 7 and 9 boast 4 finalists each; and Regions 6, 12, and 13 have 3 finalists each.

Lastly, Regions 3, 5, and 8 each have two finalists.This was announced after the first day of the Men's Artistic Gymnastics competition for Clusters 1-3 concluded at the CIT-U Gym on Thursday, July 11, at 7 PM.

Athletes from three clusters participated in four rotations, showcasing their skills on the Floor, Pommel Horse, Vault, and Horizontal Bar apparatuses.On July 12, the Women's Artistic Gymnastics competition will take place at the CIT-U Gym.

Cantor jumped a distance of 6.14 meters, surpassing the previous record of 6.04 meters set by Jeremie Tamles at the Palarong Pambansa in Naga City in 2002.

Region V dominated the first set. In the second set, Region III came close to securing a win, but Region V made a strong comeback at the end of the set to clinch the victory.

Dancesport is set to debut as a regular sport in the Palarong Pambansa 2024, the Department of Education announced Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

After being featured as a demo sport in the last edition, Dancesport, which includes Waltz, Tango, Samba, Cha-cha, and Rumba, will officially be included in the medal tally for this year.

Around 24 medal events are expected to be awarded to the best dancesport athletes from both the elementary and secondary levels.

'IT WILL BE ALL FOR FREE'

. Spectators are free to watch and enter the various games and event venues in the upcoming 2024 Palarong Pambansa.

John Pages, commissioner of the Cebu City Sports Commission, told VoxPop Cebu on July 4, 2024, that no fees will be collected from the spectators and general public who want to watch the games.

However, he stressed that seats are limited and will depend on the capacity of each venue.

“It will be all for free,” Pages said.

RECEIVE, SET, SPIKE!

The University of San Jose-Recoletos shares a sneak peek of the playing venues for the Palarong Pambansa 2024 volleyball games, which will be held at the Recoletos Coliseum on the Basak campus.

The Coliseum can accommodate a seating capacity of 2,500, with both upper and lower bleacher sections available for spectators. The courtside area will be reserved exclusively for athletes, coaches, and officials.

DTI TO MONITOR BOTTLED WATER PRICES FOR PALARONG PAMBANSA 2024

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Monday, July 8, 2024, released a comprehensive list of prices of bottled water for the duration of the Palarong Pambansa 2024 in Cebu.

Together with the Cebu City Government, DTI will be closely monitoring the prices of bottled drinks across various retail outlets in the city to prevent price manipulation and ensure compliance with the suggested retail price (SRP) bulletin.

DTI also encouraged the public to report any instances of overpricing and inconsistencies for prompt actions.

Repairs are ongoing for the newly rehabilitated rubberized track oval at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) following reports of minor defects just days before the 2024 Palarong Pambansa, announced Acting Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia on Monday.

"That is the promise of the contractor that he will finish it by today (July 8, 2024) kay ugma opening na baya sa atung opening ceremonies (and) our President and Vice-President will be here," Garcia said in a press conference on Monday.

DELEGATES CONTINUE TO ARRIVE

Around 80 percent of the delegates for Palarong Pambansa 2024 have arrived in Cebu City ahead of the national sports event, which is set to open on July 9.
