AT LEAST 14 people were hurt when a 10-wheeler truck collided with the public utility jeep they were riding in Barangay Inuburan, City of Naga at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 22.
Junet Adorna, 44, was driving his jeep towards Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City when a truck driven by Gilbert Betonio suddenly hit his jeep's backside.
Police Officer 2 Arnel Olmiges, City of Naga Traffic Police investigator, said after the truck bumped his rear, Adorna's jeep suddenly swung towards the sidewalk and then tumbled towards a creek at Barangay Inuburan.
Fourteen passengers, including a critically injured Clifford Fariola, 24, from Bantayan, Cebu were brought to the Cebu South General Hospital for immediate medical attention.
Fariola was onboard Adorna's jeep with his cousin and two nephews when the incident happened.
Betonio immediately surrendered to the authorities after the incident.
In his defense, Betonio told police that Adorna reportedly made a quick swerve towards the outer lane without switching his signal lights, which prevented him from breaking immediately.
Betonio will be facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple physical injuries. (JKV/VoxPop Cebu)
