CEBU (Updated) -- A 37-year-old call center agent was shot dead after fighting off robbers Wednesday dawn, October 3, in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.
Killed was Loraine Temple, a resident of Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu. She succumbed to a gunshot wound in the chest.
Initial police report said Temple was walking alone along Pope John Paul Avenue in Barangay Mabolo about 2:50 a.m. when two robbers accosted her and grabbed her bag.
But Temple refused to give her bag prompting one of the suspects to shoot her. The suspects then fled onboard a motorcycle.
A medical team who responded to the area after a witness called for help, failed to revive the victim.
According to the victim's fellow call center agent Hazel Namit, Temple used to drive a car, but she stopped after encountering a minor vehicular accident about a month ago.
Temple was on her way home after her 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. shift in one of the business process outsourcing (BPO) companies in the area.
Namit said they often warned the victim of walking alone, but the latter assured her and their workmates that she knew how to defend herself. Temple was reportedly a Muay Thai artist.
Temple is a native of Zamboanga City. Her mother is in the United States.
She lived with an aunt in Lapu-Lapu City.
The victim was reportedly robbed in the past, but she fought the culprit.
Mabolo Police Station Chief Dindo Alaras said they obtained a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage that captures the culprits, but the video is not clear.
The culprits both wore full-faced helmets.
Alaras said they will check other CCTV cameras from neighboring establishments.
He said the suspects may be the ones responsible in robbing a Taiwanese couple in Mabolo last week.
Alaras said they always conduct patrol along Pope John Paul II Ave.
Before the incident involving Temple, Alaras's personnel responded to a theft alarm in Barangay Hipodromo.
The police official said there is a plan to put up an outpost in the area to prevent future crimes. (KAL)
