PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte will inaugurate the P8.9-billion Bohol-Panglao International Airport on Tuesday, November 27.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said it will be the first "eco-airport" in the Philippines.
It will start to cater to international flights on November 28. The DOTr said the new facility can accommodate up to seven aircraft at any given time, including large ones for international flights.
The airport is designed to accommodate up to two million passengers a year, more than double the capacity of the old Tagbilaran Airport.
The passenger terminal building features three boarding bridges, a baggage handling system, and a public concourse area with commercial concessionaires.
Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade led the DOTr team on Monday afternoon, November 26, in conducting an ocular inspection of the new facility.
The airport is considered the first eco-airport in the country due to its use of various energy-saving and clean technologies.
The newly-constructed airport features LED lighting in all buildings, street and access roads and parking areas.
Energy-saving type air-conditioning system has also been installed in different parts of the airport.
Solar panels are being used to power up especially the passenger terminal building.
The airport also features a wastewater treatment facility and water collection and storage system.
The new airport also features wooden louvers and a low emissivity coating curtain wall at the terminal.
Around 1,700 trees are also planted inside the airport as a way to regulate carbon dioxide. (VoxPop Philippines with PR)
