POLICE Officer 3 Eugene Calumba had received six medals in his nine years in the Philippine National Police (PNP).

He was promoted to his latest rank on July 9, 21 days before he was shot dead by the bodyguard of Tejero, Cebu City Barangay Councilor Jessilou Cadungog.

Calumba received Medalya ng Pagtulong sa Pagsalanta in 2013, three Medalya ng Papuri in 2014 and 2015, Medalya ng Kagalingan in 2014, and Medalya ng Paglilingkod sa Visayas in 2016.

The flag in Police Regional Office-Central Visayas's headquarters in Cebu City was raised at half-mast to honor Calumba.

The 33-year-old native of Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, was a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Criminology at the Negros Oriental State University in 2006.

He passed the PNP entrance examination in October 2007.

Calumba's first assignment was with Regional Mobile Force Battalion (then Regional Public Safety Battalion) in December 2008.

He had stints in Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office, Cebu Provincial Police Office, and Cebu City Police Office-Traffic Group.

His record at the Regional Personnel and Human Resources Division had been labeled as "very satisfactory."
