CEBU Representative Gwendolyn Garcia denied claims made by Governor Hilario Davide III that some mayors who joined her camp were reportedly being pressured to do so.
"I think it is an insult to the mayors to suggest that they succumbed to pressure," Garcia said.
In a press conference Tuesday morning, October 16, Davide said he decided to slide down to the race for vice governor after some of his allies reportedly shifted to Garcia's camp after they were intimidated into doing so.
But Garcia said Davide's claims are merely a smokescreen to the main issue that the current administration failed to provide the much-needed leadership in the province.
Upon hearing that Vice Governor Agnes Magpale will be running against her, Garcia said she considers the 76- year-old veteran legislator a "worthy opponent."
"It will [be] a showdown between two women: One that has long served for many, many, many, many, many, many, many years and a woman that has served for over a decade," Garcia said.
Garcia also announced that she has already chosen her running mate but she will not disclose the identity until the last day of the filing of the certificate of candidacy on Wednesday, October 17. (JKV)
