"WE will continue with the 24/7."
This was what Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella assured the public after the Cebu City Public Library announced on its Facebook page that it will limit its operation hours which caused outrage to some netizens.
Based on its Facebook post, from 24 hours, the library would only operate from 8 a.m. to 12 midnight starting June 29, 2019 due to manpower shortage.
Labella will issue a memorandum and will augment more employees to continue the 24/7 operating hours of the city library.
The foreign language classes conducted in the library will also continue, he assured.
Labella added he will continue all the programs done by his predecessor, former mayor Tomas Osmeña, as long as it will benefit the public.
"Anything and everything that would be beneficial to the people, we'll continue," said Labella.
He said he does not want his administration to be the type of governance that would cut off programs just because it came from the opposition.
"Let us stop politicking, let's stop partisan posturing, that is very unhealthy," said Labella.
The library started its 24 hour-service on March 9, 2018 after Osmeña's order and announcement so the facility can accommodate the students anytime of the day.
It started when a certain Mitch Roldan simply asked the former mayor through his official Facebook page to consider opening the library 24/7 to give students a good place to study.
A week later, Osmeña then announced that the facility will be utilized for 24 hours. (JJL)
