THE vice mayor of Liloan town, Northern Cebu was hurt after she was run over by an allegedly drunk man on board a motorcycle last Sunday night, August 26.
Liloan vice mayor and lawyer Thelma Jordan was reportedly crossing the street from a nearby commercial mall at Barangay Poblacion in the said town around 8 p.m. last Sunday when Eliezer Canlum, onboard his motorcycle, suddenly hit her.
Jordan reportedly sustained a broken left arm and right leg and bruises on her head, said Senior Police Officer 1 Jonas Catubig.
Canlum also sustained injuries due to the impact.
Jordan was immediately brought to a private hospital in Cebu City where she is currently recuperating.
Canlum was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) for treatment.
Catubig told reporters that Canlum was reportedly drunk and had lost control of his motorcycle just before he hit Jordan.
In a separate interview, Dr. Victoria Jordan Sarmiento, the vice mayor's daughter, told VoxPop Cebu that her mother underwent one of the first of many surgeries on some of her injuries earlier today, August 27.
Sarmiento said that following the surgery, her mother is slowly recovering and has started talking to her visitors.
She said her mother crossed the road from the church to a mall when Canlum, on his motorcycle, struck her.
Sarmiento vowed to file charges against Canlum.
The police will initially charge Canlum with reckless imprudence resulting to physical injuries and for violation of Republic Act 10596 or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013. (JKV)
