SENIOR Police Officer 1 Adonis Dumpit died of more than 14 entry wounds from a high-powered firearm, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-Central Visayas said, but denied that there was an overkill.
NBI-Central Visayas medico-legal officer, Dr. Rene Cam, said the three gunshot wounds on Dumpit's head, which broke the back portion of his skull, proved to be the most fatal.
"There is no such thing as an overkill. It is the judgment call of the shooter if the one he is shooting or the one he is arresting has threat or is still capable of doing harm, then the shooter has to continue shooting," he said.
Cam said there were witnesses who saw Dumpit reload his gun even when he was already lying on the ground.
Dumpit was killed in a joint operation by the Regional Intelligence Division of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas and NBI Bohol on June 27. Illegal drugs were seized from him.
Meanwhile, Police Regional Office-Central Visayas Director Debold Sinas said that active police officers who will have their photos taken during the wake and burial of Dumpit will be subjected to a background investigation.
