CEBU (Updated) -- A newly retired police officer was gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailants on Thursday dawn, August 16, in Barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
Senior Superintendent Lemuel Obon, the city police director, identified the fatality as retired Senior Police Officer 2 Willy Amores.
Amores reportedly came from a yacht club in Lapu-Lapu City before the incident happened around 3 a.m.
He was driving his motorcycle with a female passenger when the culprits drove near him and shot him at close range.
The passenger was not shot, but she suffered bruises after the motorcycle fell.
Obon said he will form a task group to solve Amores's murder. He has instructed investigators to check the closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras from establishments near the crime scene.
The culprits stole Amores's clutch bag containing cash and a gun. (KAL/VoxPop Cebu)
