THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas has formed a special investigation task group (SITG) to solve the murders of a young couple who were found in Barangay San Roque, Liloan town, Cebu.
Chief Superintendent Debold Sinas, the PRO-Central Visayas director, said the SITG is led by Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Manuel Javier Abrugena.
The lead investigating unit is the Liloan Police Station under Superintendent Randy Korret.
Investigators from Cebu City Police Office, Mandaue City Police Office, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 7, and Regional Crime Laboratory Office 7 are also part of the SITG.
The victims Jamie Mata, 16, and Stephen del Corro, 27, are from Barangay Tisa, Cebu City and alleged members of a fraternity. They were identified by their relatives Wednesday.
Sinas said initial investigation leans on the love triangle theory as the possible motive behind the murders. Both victims succumbed to gunshot wounds in the head.
Investigators are also looking into fraternity rivalry and the allegations that del Corro was involved in illegal drug trade.
Mata and del Corro were last seen drinking Monday night in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.
Investigators, said Sinas, will backtrack the activities of the victims. They will also check the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras of the establishment where they were last seen.
Sinas said they will also look if the murders have a connection to the murder of Harry Uy Lloren, 43. The resident of Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City was found dead with gunshot wounds in Barangay Casili, Mandaue City. (KAL/VoxPop Cebu)
