THE University of the Philippines Cebu joins the Cebu Press Freedom week with an exhibit dubbed "1081: Interactive. Retrospective" on Wednesday, September 19.
"This is UP Cebu's contribution to the Cebu Press Freedom Week this week," organizers from the BA Communications program of the College of Communication, Art and Design (CCAD), said.
The exhibit will run for one day at the UP Cebu CCAD Multimedia Room.
It is also timed on the 46th anniversary of the declaration of martial law by deposed President Ferdinand Marcos through Presidential Decree 1081 on Friday, September 21.
The activity will feature a simulation of a torture chamber employed during martial law. It will start from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
By 4 p.m. a forum on martial law will be held with Retired Judge Meinrado Paredes as panelist. Paredes was incarcerated and tortured during these dark years.
A poetry reading will be held at 6 p.m. with Tinta, Andres Performance Art, Professor Raymund Ferndandez and XO.
The 26th Cebu Press Freedom Week opened on Sunday, September 16 and will culminate on September 23. This annual celebration serves as a reminder of the declaration of martial law in the Philippines and recognizes the role of the community media as a watchdog of government. (VLA/VoxPop Philippines)
